H. K. Firodia Awards 2017 :

22nd Year of the Award

The H K Firodia Awards for Excellence in Science & Technology for 2017 were announced by Dr. R A Mashelkar, National Research Professor and Mr. Arun Firodia, Chairman of Kinetic Group here today. These Awards are given every year to eminent Indian scientists for their world class contributions to any branch of science. This is the 22nd year of these awards.

Dr. A P J Abdul Kalam, former President of India was the very first recipient of this Award. Other prominent names include distinguished Scientists like Bharat Ratna Prof. C.N.R. Rao, Prof. M S Swaminathan etc.

HKF Vijnan Ratna

This year the Vijnan Ratna award goes to Dr. A S Kiran Kumar, Chairman ISRO Bangalore who has skillfully steered our space programme in important spheres of earth observations, communication, navigation and developed indigenous launch vehicles. He has pioneered front end remote sensing communication systems and payload systems for the whole array of satellites. The Changrayan I and the Mangalyan have carried key scientific instruments designed and developed by him. He is also the architect behind launch of 104 satellites in a single go and developing PSLV MK3 launch vehicle carrying 4 ton class of satellite in GEO. He has received several honours and awards such as International Academy of Astronauitics Award, Vasvik Award, Bhaskara Award. Also, Rajyotsava award from Karnataka State. In recognition of his outstanding contributions, he was also conferred with Padmashree award in 2014.


HKF Vijnan Bhushan

Prof. Ashutosh Sharma, Secretary Department of Science and Technology , New Delhi will be felicitated with the Vijnan Bhushan award. He is the founding co-ordinator of DST – Thematic unit. He has done pioneering work in Colloids, in Film Interfaces, Adhesion etc. His research work is highly inter disciplinary from Nano Technology to MEMS/NEMS in health, energy and environment. He has over 10 patents filed to his credit.


Chief Guest

We are fortunate to have no less a person than Dr. Rajiv Kumar as the Chief Guest to present the awards. He is the new Vice Chairman of NITI Aayog. The Think Tank of the Central Government. He is a widely respected economist who has made a mark in different roles in corporate sector as also in the Central Government. He has worked as Secretary General of FICCI and Chief Economist at CII, leading industry bodies and helped them in framing their policies. He is also the former CEO of the Think Tank ICRIER. At Niti Aayog, he has bigger responsibility to develop policies to transform India with the pledge of Sanklap se Siddhi. He has spelt out his vision in his books earlier (Resurrent India, Exploring Aspirations – Unlocking India’s Future) and the recent one Modi and His Challenges. These show indicators to his action plan.
